Former Home and Away star Lynne McGranger has shared what her life has looked like since leaving the television show last year.

The Aussie actor officially farewelled her role in August 2025, after nearly 33 years of playing Irene Roberts.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Lynne said she’s stepped into a new chapter built around variety, freedom, and staying active.

The 73-year-old has thrown herself into projects like The Grandparents Club – a show that celebrates grandparenthood – alongside touring, podcasts, and special appearances.

She’s about to star in Channel 9’s new reality TV series, Shark, which puts six big-name Aussies in the ocean to check out one of the world’s most fearsome predators.

“I keep very fit, which I love, sometimes seven days a week … We exercise outdoors, so I did a boxing class yesterday. We do a lot of weights, a bit of running, I do pilates, and when I’m not doing that, I walk,” Lynne said.

Part of the reason why she left Home and Away was to spend more time with her husband, Paul, and daughter, Clancy.

While it’s tough giving up a job that has lasted three decades, she is loving her new life. But she does miss the people she worked with.

“I miss my friends and the daily interaction with them. I loved everyone there. We worked bloody hard,” Lynne said.

“Toward the end, I was working 13-hour days that went on for weeks, sometimes three or four days a week.

“It was exhausting. I certainly absolutely do not miss that. But I do miss the camaraderie.”

Lynne also revealed whether she missed her character, Irene.

“I kind of miss Irene to a degree, in that, she was part of my life for 33 years but there’s plenty of other fish in the sea,” she said.

In future, Lynne hopes to dip her toes in theater acting and won’t turn down another television opportunity.

“If somebody came along with a great TV or film script, I would be open to it, as long as it wasn’t going to keep me there for another 33 years,” she laughed.

Shark is set to premiere later this month, and Lynne stars alongside Olympian Ariarne Titmus , influencer and businesswoman Tammy Hembrow, The Block host Scott Cam, ex-NRL player Sam Thaiday, and actor Matt Nable.

It premieres on May 31 on Channel 9 and 9Now.
