“Fires Up!” Bulldogs Young Gun Explodes Over Hawthorn Star’s Ugly Post-Game Move!

Hawthorn star’s move backfires as Bulldogs young gun fires up over ugly post-game incident

An unsavoury post-match incident capped off a spiteful contest between the two sides.

Nick Watson’s mid-game swipe at Western Bulldogs rival Michael Sellwood came back to bite him as Hawthorn were overrun at the MCG on Friday night. The Dogs stormed home in the second half to seal a drought-breaking 12.5. (77) to 9.17. (71) win after a spiteful contest that was capped off by an unsavoury incident involving Sellwood and a Hawks fan after the game.

The tense six-point triumph marked the Bulldogs’ first victory at the MCG this season, lifting them into fifth on the ladder. And after a running battle with Watson throughout the contest, Sellwood claims he was subjected to abuse from a Hawthorn supporter after the final siren, with the 22-year-old calling on the AFL to ban the culprit for calling him a “weak something”.

Sellwood and Watson were at each other all game and a clash between the pair sparked one of several melees at quarter-time. Things kicked off again when the ‘Wizard’ booted his third goal for Hawthorn in a dominant second term. He immediately got in the face of Sellwood – who had been tasked with trying to find a way to stop the Hawks lynchpin – prompting another melee.

Watson then taunted his rival further after discussing his running battle with Sellwood at half-time, when the Hawks held a commanding 27-point lead. “I don’t care if he talks as long as he walks the walk, so I’d love to see it in the second half,” Watson told Fox Footy after revealing that Sellwood was “giving me a bit” during the first two terms.

But the comments backfired as Sellwood got the better of Watson in the second half, limiting him to just two disposals and a behind. “Watson had no impact (in the second half). Well done to Sellwood sticking to that,” Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd told 3AW afer the game. “No touches in the last quarter for (Watson). (Sellwood) did a great job.”

Hawthorn were the architects of their own downfall after kicking 17 behinds in a wasteful display in front of goal. While Bulldogs midfielders Marcus Bontempelli (23 disposals, two goals), Ryley Sanders (23 touches) and Ed Richards (28) were all influential in the huge second half turnaround.

Cody Weightman (11 disposals) also made a successful return after 20 months out with knee issues, while Jordan Croft stood up with three goals for the Dogs. But Bontempelli singled out Sellwood for praise after his superb job in blunting Watson’s influence for the high-flying Hawks.

“Outstanding. He’s become one of more reliable players in 10 games,” Bontempelli told Fox Footy. “Nick Watson is one of the toughest challenges in footy, but Michael had some amazing moments and will learn a lot from that.”

Michael Sellwood claims he was abused by a fan

Sellwood was involved in more drama after the game when he took exception to some allegedly unsavoury comments from a Hawthorn supporter. And he called on the AFL to identify and sanction the man responsible after discussing the incident with Channel 7.

“I’m not going to repeat what he said … but I wasn’t happy with it,” Sellwood told the host broadcaster. “He cowered a bit pretty quickly… I pointed him out and he cowered a bit, which was quite funny. Hopefully, he gets kicked out or something, I don’t know.”
