Samantha Armytage is already looking firmly towards what comes next
Samantha Armytage may not be the new face of Today, but she is giving little indication that the decision has slowed her down.
The 50-year-old presenter appeared in high spirits this week as she shared a series of glamorous photos from inside the Nine studios, shortly after the network confirmed that Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort would become the permanent hosts of Today in 2027.
Rather than dwell publicly on the breakfast-show speculation, Sam appeared to send her own message in a much quieter way.
She simply looked very much at home in front of the camera.

The new Today line-up is now official
After months of uncertainty surrounding Nine’s breakfast show, the network confirmed on September 17 that Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort would lead Today from 2027.
The announcement followed Sarah Abo’s decision to leave both Today and Nine at the end of the year.
Sylvia has a long history with the programme, having worked across Today and Today Extra for years, while Steinfort has held senior roles at 9News, Weekend Today and 60 Minutes. Nine said the appointment followed research into breakfast television, viewer behaviour and audience feedback.
For Sam, it means the speculation surrounding her possible return to the breakfast desk has finally come to an end.
But that does not mean her relationship with Nine is ending.
Quite the opposite.

She was considered — and had already been back behind the desk
Armytage had returned to Today on a temporary basis during the network’s presenter reshuffle, making her one of the familiar names tested while Nine worked out what its next permanent line-up would look like.
Industry reporting later suggested she had been considered for the longer-term role. TV Blackbox reported that Nine wanted her involved but that she was ultimately unwilling to take on the long hours associated with the position under what the publication described as reduced salary levels.
That account has not been publicly confirmed by Nine as the reason she was not appointed.
What is confirmed is that Nine ultimately chose Jeffreys and Steinfort.
And Sam already has another major Nine project waiting for her.
The Golden Bachelor is giving Sam another spotlight
Nine has confirmed that Samantha will return as host of The Golden Bachelor Australia.
The second season is being expanded significantly, with two Golden Bachelors rather than one, and the women being given a greater role in deciding which man they wish to pursue.
Nine describes Sam as the returning host who will guide the women through the new format as relationships develop and loyalties shift.
That is an important part of the bigger picture.
Sam is not stepping away from Nine’s television plans.
She simply will not be anchoring its breakfast programme.
And this week, she appeared more than happy to embrace the role she already has.
Then came the little black dress
On Wednesday, Sam shared photographs of herself wearing a figure-hugging $600 Manning Cartell black dress, featuring a square neckline and gold detailing.
She paired it with matching heels, gold jewellery and a polished, understated look.
Her caption was deliberately casual:
“My fave little black dress right now.”
There was no reference to the Today appointment.
No explanation.
No attempt to revisit the months of speculation.
Just a confident social-media post from a presenter who appeared entirely comfortable in her own space.
She later shared more photographs in a white pin-striped suit while sitting inside the Nine studios.
The backdrop may have been familiar.
But the role she now occupies is different.
Her other television move was even more playful
Sam has also been having fun with a very different kind of reinvention.
She recently joined the wave of social-media users creating AI-generated portraits of themselves in an imagined 1980s style.
For her version, the Golden Bachelor host appeared as an exaggerated 1980s television star, wearing a low-cut gold outfit with a matching jacket, boots and oversized jewellery.
The image was deliberately glamorous — and Sam was very much in on the joke.
She captioned it by saying that her 1980s version looked “EXACTLY the same” as her 2026 self.
She then joked about the most obvious feature of the image without taking herself too seriously, adding that she had “never loved a pic” of herself more.
Her final line was perhaps the most revealing:
“I am nothing if not consistent through the decades.”
It was playful, self-aware and very Sam.
There is something revealing about what she has chosen to show
The timing is interesting.
For months, Armytage’s name was repeatedly connected to the future of Today as Nine searched for a new hosting structure after the departures of Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.
Now that the answer is known, Sam’s public response has not centred on what she did not get.
Instead, she has been showing audiences what she is doing next.
A new Golden Bachelor season.
A polished appearance at Nine.
A playful AI throwback.
And a strong sense that she remains entirely in control of her public image.
That may be why her latest posts have attracted attention.
The story is no longer simply about the role she missed.
It is about the role she already has.
Sam has been here before
Armytage’s career has already taken her through several major television chapters.
She spent almost eight years as the face of Sunrise before leaving breakfast television in 2021, later explaining that she wanted a different pace and more room for happiness and life outside the relentless routine of an early-morning programme.
She eventually moved into reality television and became the face of Farmer Wants A Wife before leaving Seven after 21 years in 2024.
She then joined Nine for The Golden Bachelor.
That history matters because a return to Today would never simply have been another presenting job.
It would have meant returning to the exact kind of schedule and pressure she had once deliberately walked away from.
Her latest role may suit the person she has become
The Golden Bachelor is a very different television proposition.
Instead of waking before dawn to front the nation’s breakfast headlines, Sam gets to lead a prime-time relationship format built around stories of love, family and second chances.
Nine’s own material for the second season promises two Golden Bachelors and a format in which the women have greater control over their journeys.
For a presenter who has already spent years carrying a breakfast programme, that offers a very different rhythm.
And perhaps that helps explain why she looks so relaxed now.
She is not disappearing.
She is changing lanes.
Even the AI image carried a small message
At first glance, the 1980s image was simply a joke.
But Sam’s caption was also a playful declaration of confidence.
She was poking fun at the exaggerated styling, laughing at herself and then making the observation that she had remained recognisably the same through the decades.
In other words, the point was not that she had to become somebody new.
It was that she could remain herself while the television roles around her changed.
That feels particularly relevant now.
Nine has moved on — and so has Sam
The breakfast-show question that dominated the middle of the year has finally been settled.
Sylvia Jeffreys and Tom Steinfort will lead Today in 2027.
Sarah Abo will leave Nine.
And Samantha Armytage will not be the person sitting alongside Steinfort in the new Today era.
But that is only one part of Sam’s story.
She remains attached to a major Nine franchise, with The Golden Bachelor returning in a much bigger format.
And away from the network announcement, she is continuing to present herself exactly as she wants to be seen: polished, playful and apparently unbothered by the need to explain every career move.
The next chapter was already there
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Samantha Armytage’s latest appearance is how little she needed to say.
No statement about Today.
No public frustration.
No dramatic response to the decision.
Just a black dress, a few photographs from the Nine studios and a joke about an AI version of herself from another decade.
The breakfast chair went elsewhere.
Her television career did not.
And with a new season of The Golden Bachelor already confirmed, the next chapter for Sam is beginning to take shape in a very different part of the Nine schedule.
Sometimes the most revealing response to a career door closing is simply to keep walking.
